Campaign Update: Thank you and Meet Sin Vuthy
![]() We are very grateful to everyone for their contributions, links, andadvice. I'm elated that we surpassed our goal to supportLengSopharath's second year at college. But, I'm not ending thecampaign. Why? Meet Sin Vuthy. He is one of ten students beingsponsored fortheir freshman through the Sharing Foundation's educationprograms. His college fees for this year have been partially sponsored,so wewant to raise more money to support him too.But Leng Sopharath andSin Vuthy are only of two of more than 1,300children that the SharingFoundation educates. These two collegestudents represent the top of thetier of the Sharing Foundation'seducational programs. In order to getto the point of sponsoring youngpeople for college, the SharingFoundation begins at the pre-schoollevel with a Cambodian version of aMontessoui Pre-School in Roteang Village. The foundation also sponsors a"head start" program for the children of the poorest villagers who workin the Foundation's farm program that provides the families with neededincome. In the local Roteang village school, the Sharing Foundation runsan English Languageprogram that is teaching over 500 children to speakEnglish. The Foundation also provides capital improvements such as a newroof, a newlibrary, and pays for school supplies. The village schoolstops at the elementary level and if studentswant to continue in highschool, they pay for high school, a luxury these promising youngpeoples' families can't afford. The SharingFoundation sponsors over 40high school students - their tuition, transportation, uniforms, andsupplies. Plus, our sponsors provideimportant emotional support viapersonal letters. Last year, our first"class" of high school studentsgraduated and ten students passed theentrance exams for college, including Leng Sopharath. This year, another ten students are beingsponsored for college, including SinVuthy. Read more here.If you haven't yet made a contribution, please use the widget on the right to donate now! July 2006: A Crisis Averted!
![]() This is Leng Sopharath talking with the director of the Sharing Foundation's program. She almost dropped out of college to take a job as a "home girl" in Malyasia. And, we all know what that would have meant. Leng Sopharath has a younger brother who lived at the orphanage and she need to make extra money to take care of him. She was convinced to stay in school and we're pleased to say that she has. We found her a part-time job (she wouldn't accept any help) so she could help support her brother. She photos and letter from this summer here. October 2005: First Letter and Photos from Leng Sopharath
![]() Our family became her sponsor in October, 2005. You read about her story, see photos, and read her first letter to us here. We raised $25 towards our goal within the first 24 hours!
Here's the first post I made about our campaign on my blog
http://beth.typepad.com/beths_blog/2006/11/sharing_foundat.html We raised $25. We still need to raise $725 more by Jan. 1st. Help us Sponsor Leng Sopharath for College in Cambodia
Sharing Foundation www.sharingfoundation.org And, we need your help.
For an annual donation of $750 a year to the Sharing Foundation, Leng Sopharath gets the opportunity of a lifetime for someone in Cambodia - she will attend college and major in accounting. Leng Sopharath grew up in an oprhanage and has worked her whole life. This opportunity will allow her to make a better life for herself and younger brothers. I am on the board of the Sharing Foundation, an ngo that works to support children in Cambodia.
